Families should find nannies in the US who offer 'cultural diversity'

30/07/2010

news image Parents who want to find nannies in the US for their child may want to consider hiring someone from a different cultural background because doing so will mean their children experience different customs.

And this will also benefit the nanny, as they too will be able to find out more about the traditions of their host family's culture.

Tammy Ramsay from Dillon Valley in Colorado hired Nele Grasshoff of Hamburg, Germany to take care of her two children, reports the Summit Daily News.

Discussing the impact that Ms Grasshoff has had on the family, Ms Ramsay told the news provider: "Sometimes Grasshoff cooks the children German food, and she's able to teach them German words, nursery rhymes and songs.

"She's also is fluent in English, so being able to communicate with the family isn't difficult."

Ms Grasshoff added that the arrangement provides a "good opportunity" to both sides, explaining that she has also learned a lot herself about German living.

Kids in the US may be interested to learn that many of their favourite holiday traditions are actually said to originate from Germany, including hanging decorations on Christmas trees and hiding Easter eggs.
