Swedish graduates could become au pairs in Norway

28/07/2010

news image Young people from Sweden could become au pairs in Norway as larger numbers of youngsters are moving to the country to find work.

Swedish youths are possibly moving to Norway as the labour market is poor in the present economy. A quarter of 15-24-year-olds are unemployed, reports the Stockholm News.

Johannes Sorbo, advisor at the Norwegian Employment Service, told the news provider that young Swedish people were popular with employers as the language is not a problem.

He said: "It is certainly a plus that wages are better than in Sweden, and it is easier for young people to find jobs in Norway than in Sweden. We have a labour shortage."

In the past two years the number of Swedish people working in Norway has grown by 25 per cent, suggests the Norwegian tax authority.

At the end of 2009, 83,600 Swedish citizens were working in Norway and 35 per cent of those were aged 20 to 29-years-old.

Au pairs in Norway need to be able to speak the language as it will be used everyday so a young Swedish citizen could be ideal.
